Do you work a job that keeps you connected to your computer? Does it feel impossible to get your child to unplug and detach from screens? Today’s digital age leaves us disconnected from natural habitats. There is much research showing the restorative benefits of spending time in nature, but this is not always prioritized by our jobs or lifestyles. I am able to offer a variety of ways to incorporate nature into counseling working out of my office’s location in the foothills of Boulder. Nature therapy can help restore balance to your life.
Studies show that increasing your exposure to nature can increase mood, lower stress, and change your brain activity. Being in nature can help you calm your mind and increase your self esteem. Nature therapy can also be called Eco-Therapy and Wilderness Therapy, depending on what the work is focusing on. It works holistically with both mind and body, providing a container from which new types of exploration are possible. Through nature, we can use metaphor and experiencing to heal and more deeply understand ourselves.
I offer counseling combined with time in nature to provide you with increased benefit from our work together. We will collaboratively design a treatment plan that brings more nature into your life in ways that work for you. This can be accomplished through walk and talk therapy in the forest, sitting in a peaceful setting by the pond, or in almost any way we can imagine. My location on a horse farm also allows clients to participate in equine therapy. Please don’t hesitate to give me a call to talk about how we can work towards your goals.
“Nature is the one place where miracles not only happen, but they happen all the time”– Thomas Wolfe
